Annie Raser-Rowland

Adam Grubb

We know how full of perks frugal living can be, because we live it. Our weekly spending on everything except housing is less than a quarter of the Australian average – and yet we live a life of luxury and adventure!

The stripy one above with the wonky teeth is Annie. She’s a horticulturalist and artist, and she works at CERES nursery in Melbourne, giving people advice on how to grow lots of tomatoes.

The hairier one is Adam. He runs an urban permaculture design and education business called Very Edible Gardens, co-hosts RRR radio’s Greening the Apocalypse, and also co-founded EnergyBulletin.net (now Resilience.org) and the Permablitz movement.

We’ve written another book together: The Weed Forager’s Handbook: A Guide to Edible and Medicinal Weeds in Australia (Hyland House, 2012), which has sold over 30,000 copies so far. We’re hoping as many people find this one just as useful.

Here’s what a few people said about that book:

“The most entertaining read about weeds I could ever have imagined.” ~ Larissa Dubecki, author of Prick with a Fork (Allen & Unwin, 2015)

“In other words, if you eat, then this book is a must-have companion.” ~ Costa Georgiadis, host of Gardening Australia

“This handbook is the essential text for both novice and experienced wild food foragers.” ~ David Holmgren, co-originator of the permaculture concept

“It’s a little like uncovering gold beneath a tarnished, uninspiring surface, and this book is your metal detector, leading you to the goodies.” ~ Frankie Magazine
